Our geared hub kits are compact and well thought out conversion kits for bikes with 20" (folding bikes), 26", 27.5" and 700C wheels with a range of battery capacity.
Compared to middle motors: hub motors don't get splashed by surface water, relieve stress and strain on your drivetrain and cheaper to buy.
They are perfect for commuting bikes and you can even ride home with a broken chain!

Why should you prefer a geared hub motor to direct drive motors?
- internal clutch eliminates drag when riding without assistance.
- internal gearbox yields much higher torque at low speed.
- the rotor spins 4-13 times faster, resulting in a smaller and lighter motor.

If you are worried about puncture repairs
Some customers are rightly worried about the extra weight and wiring on the motor wheel should they have to do a puncture repair by the side of the road.
In that case, fit a Gaadi innertube. They cost about £10 each.
The Gaadi inner tube is also known as the 'sausage' inner tube because it features two ends instead of a standard circular tube.
You can remove it for repair without having to remove the wheel first.

Golden rules for installations:

- Cable from motor must exit downwards.
- Do not pull cable ties too tight.
- Make sure the motor connector is inserted all the way to the line.
- Do not use a pressure washer on this kit

Kits are not the same as bikes, which are supplied as complete items needing little or no intervention by the customer.
If we cannot fix a kit under warranty to you, we will offer you a refund.
Please note that this will not be a full refund.
It will be based upon the condition and age of the kit, the number of miles it has done and whether any of its component parts are missing. Please refer to our sales terms and conditions for details.
In some cases, faults are caused by the way the kit has been installed or misused (eg derestricted, despite our warnings) rather than by a manufacturing mistake within the kit itself. In those cases, we cannot cover the cost of repairs under warranty.
What if I cannot fit the kit myself?
We will assist you in finding a local bike shop and liaise with the bike shop to carry out the work for you.
The average charge to fit our kits is around £80, you pay directly to the bike shop.

If you want us to make recommendations:

Please send some pictures of your bike to kits@wooshbikes.co.uk
  • - general view of the bike
  • - handlebars front view
  • - bottom bracket area with the bike upside down
  • - give us the tyre size eg 28-622 Schwalbe Marathon Plus.
We'll check and make recommendations.

Required skill level:

Although we take every step to make installation as easy and straightforward as possible, you still need to own and know how to use a digital multitester and to be able to:

  • - Remove and refit the cranks
  • - Remove and refit the bottom bracket just in case
  • - Remove and refit your brakes and tyres
  • - Remove and refit your freewheel or freehub
  • - Index your gears

New! Bag batteries

We have 3 new bag batteries:
  • 36V 10AH weighing just under 2kgs, range about 30-35 miles, for Brompton kits
  • 36V 15AH weighing 2.3kgs, range about 50 miles, for BBS01B, XF07 and XF08C kits
  • 48V 10AH weighing 2.2kgs, range about 50 miles, for TSDZ2, BBS01ET and DWG22C kits
Bag batteries require no effort to attach to the bikes. They don't have lock and keys, you will have to run a steel cable through the bag if you intend to leave your bike unattended.

New! Inline Brake Sensor

This sensor suits all cable operated brakes.
You can opt for them instead of sensored brake levers.

New! Left side Pedal Sensor

This sensor is much easier to install than the traditional pedal sensor with 12-pole magnet disc.
Suitable for square taper bottom brackets.
Works with all our hub kits.
Note:
1) this sensor does not fit bottom brackets with external ballbearings like GXP, Octalink, BB30 etc.
Please contact us, we can supply you with the correct sensor for your bike.
2) the square taper bottom bracket needs a spindle length 122mm-127mm, diameter of the axle: 16mm.
This is how it should look.
This is how it looks fitted on the Woosh Faro
We can supply one for £10 on sale or return if you are not sure which length yours has.

New! Split magnet disc

If you don't have much space between the chainring and the frame, choose this split magnet disc which can be fitted with simple sticky pads instead of a normal disc:
After everything is working, make the installation permanent with epoxy glue or screws.

New! Seat tube mounted pedal sensor

Easy to fit, just put a sticky pad on the seat tube to provide an anchor and pull the cabletie.

New! King Meter KM-529 LCD for 36V kits:

New! Internal speed sensor

By placing the speed sensor inside the motor, the installation is even simpler and the wiring neater.

New! Display Only Option - Pay £15 less

If you don't want the throttle nor the brake sensors, you get £15 reduction, the installation is even simpler and the wiring neater.

Frequently asked questions

  • Question: I need some help. Why can't your engineer come to the phone? Why do I have to email kits@wooshbikes.co.uk?
We need the details of your project: tyre dimensions, bike pictures, what your requirements are etc before we can answer your questions.
It is easier for us to set aside time to call you back.
  • Question: How do I choose a kit?
Start with choosing the battery: bag battery or downtube battery or rack battery.
A downtube battery gives better weight distribution, but if your bike can't have one, then go for a bag battery or rack battery.
    Next, choose the motor position.
Front hubs are easiest to fit, rear hubs are stealthy and give excellent traction, crank motors give the best ride feel.
    Next, choose the motor.
Rear hub motors are the most popular choice. They all have an internal clutch and gearbox.
You can't have a rear hub kit if you have hub gears.
The XF08C is a popular choice at 2.9kgs, 45NM and is good for riders up to 16st.
The DWG22C is heaviest at 4kgs, 60NM and is good for very hilly terrains, cargo bikes and riders over 16st.
If you need help, email kits@wooshbikes.co.uk for advice.
  • Question: does the new wheel come with tyre, inner tube, brake rotor and cassette already fitted?
No. You have to remove them from your old wheel and install them on the motor wheel.
  • Question: do I need any specialist tools to fit the conversion kit myself?
Yes, you will need a crank puller and bottom bracket tool, cassette or freewheel removal tool.
They are available on the net or from local bike shops. Cost: about £15.
  • Question: is there a step by step guide available to fit the conversion kit?
Yes, please download and read the installation and LCD manuals. The links to download are on the webpage.
  • Question: can I pull the battery out and still have a relatively light bike for self powered rides?
Yes, you can do that but in practice, you'll get used to the weight of the battery very quickly, so most people don't bother to remove the battery.
  • Question: Do I need brake sensors?
If you don't install the throttle, you don't need the brake sensors. That has the benefit of saving £15 of unneeded components.
If you have hydraulic brakes and a throttle, you will need to order the hydraulic brake sensors. £23.
If you have cable operated brakes, a throttle and combined gear and brake levers or dropbars, you will need to order the inline brake sensor option. £3.
  • Question: Which pedal sensor?
The right side pedal sensor with drilled disc will fit most bikes.
Fit the disc to the chainring with double sided sticky pads.
When it's all working, use epoxy glue to stick the disc to the chainring permanently.
The left side pedal sensor is simplest to fit but only fits 68x122mm or 73x127mm square taper bottom brackets.
The seat tube type is only for ISIS or pressfit type bottom brackets.
If you need help, email kits@wooshbikes.co.uk for advice.
  • Question: I don't know how to true my motor wheel. Do I have to?
You don't have to true your wheel yourself.
However, you need to check the spokes from time to time (once a couple of weeks) by just giving the spokes a squeeze or ping to make sure that none is loose.
If you find a loosened spoke, tighten it up as soon as possible. Loosened spokes will break within a couple of weeks.
Tools: you will need a spoke key. £3.
If you have a problem with your wheel, email kits@wooshbikes.co.uk for advice. We'll help to sort it out for you.
  • Question: What are the advantages and disadvantages of a bag battery?
Although you can put the HL downtube battery in a frame bag instead of mounting it on the downtube, we recommend that you get a proper bag battery if your bike cannot have a downtube battery or a rack battery. for example when the downtube is curved or your bike does not have enough space to accommodate a downtube battery.
If space is a problem, cut a piece of cardboard, 36cm long by 10cm high to see where it would go.
If you need help, email kits@wooshbikes.co.uk for advice.
Bag batteries are about 1kg lighter compared to downtube or rack batteries, also smaller and cheaper because you don't pay for the plastic case.
The main disadvantage is that they don't have lock and keys so you have to add some security measure yourself, such as running a steel cable through the bag.
Also, although they have some degree of water proofing, they must be kept away from rain.

Which battery?

The choice is usually dictated by the donor bike and the voltage of your chosen motor.
The cost of the battery is largely proportional to the capacity, also the range you can get from a full charge. Mens bikes with diamond frames can take all types of batteries, step through bikes are usually better with rack batteries, folding bikes with bag batteries.
Please email a picture of your bike to support@wooshbikes.co.uk if you need advice.
The controller is usually integrated within the battery. In downtube format,it forms the battery base. In rack format, it is installed inside the controller compartment in the rack. In bag batteries, it is inside the supplied bag.
Capacity and range:
Capacity is expressed in either AH (Amp Hours) or WH (Watt Hours).
WH = Voltage x AH. So a 36V 10AH battery has 36 * 10 WH, 360 Watt Hours.
Allow around 10WH-12WH per assisted mile, you get about 36 miles - 30 miles from a full charge.
A 36V 20AH will have twice the WH and twice the range.
A 48V 15AH battery has 48 * 15 = 720WH and gives you about 72 miles - 60 miles from a full charge.
